Best if you want travel, commute, and everyday conversation to feel natural. The first time you use DodoTalk, go through the loop below. Today’s step on Home tells you which step you are on.
If you mainly want exam materials—vocabulary, listening, speaking items—use the Exam prep path.
The five steps
- Speaking level check (not a formal exam): see roughly where you are. See What the speaking level check is.
- Make an AI plan: choose Scenario practice (or Other from your goal), write a clear goal, and save under Not started. See Make an AI plan, Plan types.
- Tap Start: the plan becomes Active. See Start a plan and the active limit.
- Practise every day: open Practice tasks on Learn, tap Go practice, and speak on the Practice tab. See Your first practice, What Learn shows.
- Check Progress: review the timeline and compare stages. See What Progress shows.
Why this order
| If you skip | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| The level check, going straight to a plan | Goal and difficulty may be well off |
| Tapping Start after making a plan | The plan stays Not started and Home does not treat it as a plan to follow |
| Practice, only making plans | No practice records, so progress is hard to see |
| Progress, only practising | Hard to adjust plans or tasks in time |
A day by role (short examples)
- Personal: Today’s step suggests the check → make a scenario plan and start it → Go practice from Practice tasks → speak on Practice → review in Progress.
- Parent: make a plan for the child and start it → allocate minutes → the child practises on their own account → the parent checks via proxy view.
- Teaching: make and start a plan for a learner, or assign speaking tasks → the learner practises → check the summary before class.
If…
- Today’s step stays on the level check: finish one speaking level check, then go to Plans in Space or continue from Home. There is no separate Plan bottom tab.
- You made a plan but Today’s step still says Start: go to Space → Plans → Not started and tap Start.
- You want to speak before making a plan: fine, but take the check and start a plan soon so Today’s step stays continuous.
- You actually want exam prep: switch to the Exam prep path; choose Exam prep or Single skills as the plan type.
